FAQs - More...
Set up an LLC here for $50 plus state fees. It is a preferable ownership structure because of its flexibility in % in ownership and corporate formalities, i.e., there are no corporate minutes to hold unless you treat the LLC as a "C" corporation.
All LLCs, including those formed before 2018, will need to obtain an EIN after formation, and to do so will need to designate a Responsible Person and keep track of members and LLCs financial transactions and are required to file Form 5472.
Also, if one foreign person owns more than one disregarded LLC, each LLC will report individually the transactions.
Form 5472 is an Information return for tax purposes, and as such is not publicly available. After an LLC is dissolved/canceled/liquidated, it must file a final Form 5472, including any distribution of assets to its sole member.
If the LLC changes status by electing to be treated as a corporation, or adding members and thereby becoming a partnership, it still must file a final Form 5472.
In more than 90% of setting up a business and selecting an ownership structure from sole proprietor, LLC, or Partneship, forming an LLC (Limited Liability Co.) is better than filing a DBA or setting up an S Corporation because an LLC protects both your personal and the LLC assets. E.g., In the unfortunate case where Michae is sued for an LLC business wrong, a judgement creditor cannot seize Michaels personal assets nor the LLC assets. Also, because an LLC does not require formalities such as keeping minutes, an LLC is better than a C or S corporation for small starting businesses.

What does it take to legally open a prepared food concession business in Kingman, AZ?

Hi Delilah, Yaeger Food Preparation sounds like a promising venture. Hungry crowds at festivals and farmers markets are ready to buy on the spot, and a signature dish like fresh empanadas can build a loyal following fast. Your first stop is the Arizona transaction privilege tax (TPT) license: it makes your sales legal and your wholesale buying tax-free with a resale certificate. Below we walk through the three things every new business in Arizona sorts out (structure, tax IDs, and licenses) and then sum it all up.

What Yaeger Food Preparation needs

  1. Arizona transaction privilege tax (TPT) license – You will be selling taxable goods, so register to collect sales tax before your first sale. It also lets you buy inventory for resale without paying tax on it.
  2. LLC (limited liability company) – Forming an LLC puts a legal wall between the business and your personal assets. If several customers fall ill after eating at your booth and file suit, an LLC shields your house and savings.
  3. DBA (doing business as) registration – If you operate as a sole proprietor, or under a name different from your LLC's exact legal name, registering "Yaeger Food Preparation" lets you use it on signs, invoices, and your business bank account.
  4. EIN (federal tax ID number) – You plan on 4 employees, so the federal tax ID number (EIN) is required for payroll, and you will also use it for the business bank account and supplier accounts.
  5. Arizona employer ID – With 4 employees, you need a state employer account number for payroll withholding and unemployment insurance. It works like the EIN, but for state payroll taxes.
  6. Business license – A business license puts Yaeger Food Preparation on the official map in Kingman, which landlords, banks, and many customers will expect to see before they sign anything. If you rent, many permits ask for the landlord's written consent to run a business from the property.
  7. Food service permit – Selling cooked food at markets or festivals typically requires a permit and inspection, and some areas require a licensed commissary kitchen.
  8. Food handler card – Many states require food workers to finish a basic food safety course.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a prepared food concession business it is NAICS 722330 (Mobile Food Services). With 4 employees planned, you are already creating jobs in Kingman. That makes 8 items on your list.

Tip: Ask whether your area allows home-cooked food for sale under cottage food rules before cooking in your own kitchen.

To recap: Yaeger Food Preparation in Kingman, AZ needs a sales tax permit, an LLC, a DBA, an EIN, a state employer ID, a business license, food service permit, and food handler card. Check them off one by one and you will open with confidence.

We can file your seller's permit and the other registrations for you: start here.

Answer: Hi Erika, yes, Staring Your Business in San Marcos requires a business license for your Food in CA because it is a registration that all business are subject too since you may need an inspection for hygiene, i.e., health permit etc..

Your business name, "Kika Pika LLC" needs to be registered with LA Trade Name, an LLC or corporation because the public is entitled to know who is using the business name and at what location.

Finally, another license permit you need is the seller's permit Sales Tax license because selling Food products requires that you collect sales tax with each sale. For example, if you sell $100 of food, you will need to charge about

Starting Your Own Small Business Selling Food
You will need a seller's permit because prepared food is taxable.
Food businesses are peculiar in that in addition to other licenses and tax IDs, you may need a health inspection. The inspection may take place after you obtain your licenses here online on this site.
In addition, most states require that you take a food certification course ( about $20 depending on your state). This is usually online and takes less than a day to be certified. This, too, can be done after you set up your business. I.e., after you register your food business by obtaining the required licenses here online.
How to Register Your Food Business
First, select your food business structure: Select from Sole Proprietor, Partnerships, LLC or Corporation.
Then, a sellers permit is required because you sell prepared food wholesale or retail.
If you are an employer, i.e., you hire people to help you prepare, sell, or serve food, you will need a federal employer number and a State Employer Number.
Food businesses that are users of a trade name will need a fictitious business name filing. For example, you name your food business a name like "Great Food That Makes You Lose Fat and Inches," requires a business name registration.
Finally, you have the option of incorporating or forming an LLC, in which case, you will not have to register the business name as long as the LLC or corporation name is the same as the one you registered the LLC or corporation as. For example, your business name is "Food is Us," and you register your LLC as "Food is Us". Then you will not need to register it as a business name because it would be the legal name of the LLC. Whether you cook food from home for catering, a food store or restaurant, a mobile food seller, such as a food truck, concession stand, a hot dog cart, or even if you sell nutritional and food supplements, the requirements are similar, food business is a great business, and you should be excited and ready to work hard.
This is fantastic because for example, McDonald's stores sell about $2,600,000 per store per year, and Subway about $481,000 per store per year. In addition, there are about 37,053 stores / supermarkets and each supermarket store sells about $384,911 weekly.
Starbucks uses 150,000 employees, and makes about 14 billion annually while Supermarket / Stores as a whole used 3,400,000 employees, and sold $602,609,000,000 in food and merchandise,) you will need a federal employer Number and a State Employer Number.
The average person spends about $27.30 for grocery items and goes to the store 2-3 times per week .

What licenses, permits and paperwork do I need to open a for-profit thrift and consignment store in Bridgeport, Connecticut, as a sole proprietor?
Answer by SellerPermit.com:
10/14/2026 7:15 AM

Start with a Connecticut sales and use tax permit. A thrift and consignment shop sells taxable goods to the public, so you must collect sales tax, and consigned items count as your sales too.

• Trade name: a DBA if you operate under a shop name as a sole proprietor, though an LLC would separate the shop's debts from your own.
• EIN: useful for banking and required once you hire anyone.
• Local business license and zoning approval for the Bridgeport storefront, plus any certificate of occupancy for the space.
• Written consignment agreements with each seller, spelling out the split and the holding period.
• Employer accounts for unemployment and withholding if you add staff.

Secondhand dealer rules sometimes apply to jewelry or electronics, so ask us before stocking those.

What do I need in Mississippi to buy wholesale as a sole proprietor and sell clothing online?
Answer by SellerPermit.com:
10/14/2026 7:15 AM

In Mississippi you would register for a sales tax permit. That registration is what lets you hand wholesalers a resale certificate, so you buy inventory without paying sales tax on it, and it also obliges you to collect tax on sales to Mississippi customers.

As a sole proprietor you can run under your own name, or file a DBA if you want a brand name on your website and invoices. Many wholesalers also ask for an EIN, which keeps your Social Security number off paperwork. Check whether your town wants a local privilege or business license even for a home-based online shop. If you will sell into other states in volume, you may owe sales tax registration there too. An LLC is optional but worth considering once sales grow, and we can file every piece of this for you.

I already hold a cosmetologist license and a contractor license. What are my next steps, and which licenses do I need to sell hair products to my clients?
Answer by SellerPermit.com:
10/14/2026 7:15 AM

Your cosmetology license covers the services you perform, but selling products is a separate matter. In Ohio you need a vendor's license, since you will be collecting sales tax on every bottle and tool sold to a client.

That same vendor's license lets you buy product from distributors using a resale certificate, so you stop paying tax at the wholesale counter. If you work from a salon booth, ask the owner whether sales run through their register or yours, because that decides whose license is used. Add an EIN, and an LLC or DBA if you want a brand name on your invoices. Your contractor license does not figure into retail, so unless you sell in a store you lease, a local business license is the only other piece. We can file the vendor's license and EIN for you.
